A new program offering at Red Bud High School and calendar changes were approved at the Feb. 18 Red Bud Board of Education meeting.
High School Principal Alan Guehne presented the board with information about the Running Start Program offered by Southwestern Illinois College (SWIC), recommending the school enter into an agreement with SWIC to participate.
“It’s a dual enrollment program,” he explained. In the Running Start program, high school students would be enrolled at both RBHS and SWIC for their junior and senior years, taking classes at SWIC. The class work they would do would fulfill the requirements for both a high school diploma and an associates degree.
These students would be still considered RBHS students, and thus could still participate in all the high school activities and events.
