People driving by Red Bud High School on Wednesday and Thursday last week were able to see a new sculpture being created on the school’s front lawn.
Back at the August school board meeting, District Building and Grounds Director Shane Chandler stated that one of the old oak trees in front of the high school had to be cut down.
He elaborated, “The tree was dead and had to be cut down. We tried to save it, but it just wasn’t possible. It had too many dead limbs in the top of it and was a safety issue.”
However, they were able to salvage most of the tree’s trunk. The plan was to have an artist come in and do a chainsaw sculpture of a musketeer or the school logo into the remaining trunk.
“This is super exciting,” Chandler shared with the board. “I hated to see the tree go, but it was getting unsafe.”
