Text to 911 service is now available

This week, Randolph County 911, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office and the Sparta Police Department have announced a new service is now available to the citizens of Randolph County.

If a citizen cannot safely make a voice 911 call in an emergency, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office and Sparta Police Department public safety answering points (PSAPs) have implemented a text 911 service. This service will allow citizens to be able to contact 911 through text messaging when a 911 call cannot be made safely.

For more on this service, please see this week’s print edition.
