Tenth annual RAOK Day will be Feb. 10

Abby Liefer and Hannah Porter

Ten years ago, on the evening of Jan. 10, 2015, two young local women, Abby Liefer and Hannah Porter, were fatally injured when a convicted drunken driver crashed into the vehicle they were in just outside of Red Bud.

Dealing with the tragic loss and trying to find ways to honor them, family and friends of the pair on the one month anniversary of their deaths held a “random acts of kindness” day, or RAOK Day, on Feb. 10, 2015.

The idea was simple. All were invited to do at least one random act of kindness, whether big or small, in memory of Liefer and Porter. Those behind the day thought it would be a simple movement of spreading good cheer. They had no idea how big it would get.
