A man who was thoroughly dedicated to making Red Bud and the surrounding community a better place passed away on Sunday, June 1.
When Richard “Smiley” Roehrkasse was recognized as the Red Bud Citizen of Achievement for 2011, it was noted, “While our winner has never owned a business in Red Bud, you can see he has dedicated his life, and made it his business to serve the community we all call home. He embodies Red Bud’s slogan. A community of spirit, conviction….a way of life.”
Roehrkasse was extremely active in the community, serving on many committees and boards.
