Following two reported threats for the Red Bud School District already this school year, there have been many in the community wanting the district to get a school resource officer (SRO). The topic was brought up at the Sept. 18 board of education meeting.
Parent Chelsea Liefer addressed the topic during public comments, noting that she and other parents would like the district to get an SRO. She cited the situation at the high school earlier this year, plus the incident at Belleville West High School on Sept. 16 where a student brought a gun to school.
“We appreciate what the board has already done to keep students safe,” she added. Liefer then pointed out that SROs are not just for responding when an incident happens, but for every day
