Barely a week after the passing of its director, the Red Bud Area Museum lost another of its founders with the passing of Carl Zschiegner last weekend.
Zschiegner, 91, of Red Bud, passed away on Saturday, April 19.
Zschiegner spent a life working in life insurance, however he and his wife Florence were both dedicated volunteers in the community. They also loved to travel, which is where he came up with the idea of proposing a museum for Red Bud’s history.
In July 2011, he noted that he and Florence had visited many small town museums during a trip they had taken west on Route 66. He then proposed the question of why not have one here? He pointed out that a museum would be a beneficial asset to the community.
