The Red Bud High School football field renovation work continues, and on Monday, June 24, crews began installing the field’s new turf. The turf is Bermuda grass and is being installed this week by crews from Heartland Turf Farms of Columbia. The new turf is just one aspect of the renovation project. Approved by the school board back in February, the project also covers the demolition of the previous field and regrading it to properly recrown it to meet IHSA’s standards and achieve proper drainage; installation of more sprinkler heads for better coverage of the field; and installation of new goal posts. Work is also underway in renovating the track around the field, including adding/extending a straightway chute, as well as reconditioning and restriping the track. The project is anticipated to be completed in early August, prior to football season.
