Musketeers are back to back champs

SECTIONAL CHAMPION–The Red Bud High School boys golf team has earned a trip to the state tournament. The team won the IHSA Class 1A Teutopolis Sectional played at Effingham Golf Club on Oct. 6. This championship is the first in the history of the program. The team shot 305, seven strokes better than second place Teutopolis. Two freshmen, Draedan Duncan and Porter Donjon tied for second place overall shooting 74 for the day. The state tournament is Friday and Saturday at Prairie Vista Golf Club in Bloomington. The 2025 season for Red Bud High School’s boys golf team has been one of excitement and success. This past week, though, is one for the history book. In just six days, this team won a regional championship, the first in 27 years, followed up by the program’s first ever sectional championship. And they’re not done as they have now earned a trip to state.

The Class 1A Waterloo (Gibault) regional tournament was held Oct. 1 at The Acorns Golf Links. A total of 14 teams made up the regional. The local linksters topped the field shooting 313, an impressive 33 shot lead over second place Nashville. Junior Jack Muench shot a solid one over par 73 to claim overall regional medalist in an 86- man field. Senior captain Kruz Koester followed shooting 76 for second place overall earning his fourth trip to the sectional. Rounding out the scoring for Red Bud included Blake Marcheski (81) seventh overall, Draedan Duncan (83) 10th overall, Lane Diewald (84) 12th overall and Porter Donjon (85) 14th overall.
