Remembrance was the theme of this year’s Memorial Day service in Red Bud on May 26.
The guest speaker for the event was retired Navy Lieutenant Commander Alan Eggemeyer.
Eggemeyer lives in Waterloo and serves as the senior vice for the Red Bud VFW Post. While in the service, he earned the Joint Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and various service and unit awards.
He started his speech by invoking the words of former President Calvin Coolidge, “The nation which forgets its defenders will itself be forgotten.”
