Evansville board discussed putting fire department’s boat into service

Putting the fire department’s boat into service was a big topic of discussion at Monday night’s Evansville Village Board meeting.

Village President Kenny Kempfer prefaced the discussion by saying that he felt the matter was a fire department issue and that the village board should only require a stand of operating guidelines (SOG) from the fire department.

Trustee Darren Kempfer, on behalf of the fire department, noted that the fire department has a boat and are currently trying to decide if they actually want to put it into service. Among the considerations are the costs, writing the SOG and checking with the village attorney about liability and insurance costs to the village. However, he added that prior to the fire department deciding, they needed to have approval from the village board.
