A visit from yesteryear – Vu’s visit

SPECIAL VISITOR–Kenny and Joan Voges had a special visitor recently, Vu Tran. In the 1970s, the Voges family had sponsored a Vietnamese family and Vu was a part of that family.

It was April of 1975, Saigon had fallen to the North Vietnamese. People were clamoring to leave Vietnam by any means possible. The Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod (LCMS) had put out an alert for sponsors for these refugees. Kenny and I were married 14 years. Kenny and I responded.

In 1968, Kenny and I had purchased farm land with a small farm house across from our house. The farm house was now vacant although in need of some repairs. We contemplated on fixing up that little house and sponsoring a Vietnamese family, and it became a reality – a mom, dad, three little boys and an aunt.
