Local medalists at SIJHSAA state track and golf meets

PLACED AT STATE–Liam Ohlau from St. John the Baptist Catholic School placed eighth in the 400m at the SIJHSAA State track meet held at Murphysboro High School on May 9. He is the son of Elizabeth Ohlau and Jason Ohlau.

STATE MEDALIST–Henry Walter, an eighth grade member of the Red Bud Elementary Track and Field team, competed at the SIJHSAA Class L state meet on May 9 in two events. Walter placed eighth in both the discus (123’3”) and 100 meter dash (12.34). He is the son of Joshua Walter and Cassie Heller.

FOURTH AT STATE– Eighth grader Lance Nottmeier from St. John the Baptist Catholic School placed fourth overall out of 80 golfers at the SIJHSAA State Golf Tournament held at Kokopelli Golf Club in Marion on May 11. Nottmeier shot a 72 (+1) to earn All State honors. He is the son of Travis and Stacy Nottmeier.

THIRD PLACE–The SIJHSAA state golf tournament was held May 11 at Kokopelli Golf Club in Marion. St. John’s Lutheran Cougars carded a team score of 248 to take third place for the second consecutive year. Team competition for junior high golf started last year. Charlie Liefer shot 73 (+2) to take fifth place overall out of 80 golfers earning All State honors. The team completed the season with a record of 50-5.
