UP’s Big Boy draws a big crowd

STOPPED IN CHESTER–The Union Pacific Big Boy #4014 steam locomotive made a stop in Chester last Saturday afternoon as part of its tour across several states. A large crowd, only a small portion of which can be seen in this picture, was waiting in Chester to greet the massive engine. For more pictures of the engine as it passed through the local area, see this week’s print edition.

Quite the crowd turned out on the afternoon of Saturday, Aug. 28 to see the Union Pacific Big Boy #4014 steam locomotive as it passed through the local area.

The Big Boy left out of Cheyenne, WY on Aug. 5 and is traveling through numerous states before returning home on Sept. 7. On Saturday, it left out from Poplar Bluff, MO in the morning, and made a stop in Scott City, MO before it crossed the Mississippi River into Illinois.

The train made its only scheduled stop in Illinois at the station located at Rock Bridge Road and Water Street in Chester around 2:15 p.m., with a large crowd there awaiting its arrival.
