St. Peter UCC provided Christmas stockings to area at-risk youth

SPREADING CHRISTMAS JOY–St. Peter United Church of Christ, along with help from local businesses and organizations, presented 600 kids at Hoyleton Youth and Family Services with Christmas stockings. Pictured with some of the stocking are Shannon, Savannah and Nick Horrell.

Christmas was a little brighter for over 600 kids this season, courtesy of a Santa-sized delivery of Christmas stockings to Hoyleton Youth and Family Services.

St. Peter United Church of Christ in Red Bud led the initiative, joined by Red Bud area businesses and organizations like the Red Bud Lions Club, to provide a Christmas stocking filled with gifts to children in the foster care system and those living in Hoyleton’s residential programs.

“It was an opportunity for our church to lead a community-wide effort to make Christmas a little more joyful for the Hoyleton kids,” said Shannon Horrell, who led the project. “Over $8,000 dollars were raised and over 600 stockings were delivered. It was an amazing team effort.”
