At their Oct. 17 meeting, the Red Bud Board of Education approved of the contract with GRP to replace some of the rooftop HAVC units at the elementary school.
These HVAC units were first discussed at the board’s August meeting, where it was noted that 10 of the elementary school’s units were over 20 years old. They are at the end of their life and have begun to fail. These failures caused some issues over the summer, by not removing humidity from that section of the school, leading to a mold problem.
At their September meeting, Laura Weber of GRP gave a presentation to the board on replacing those units. She noted that the old units could not be repaired. So her proposal was to replace the old units with 10 new ones, that would have variable speed compressors to effectively deal with the humidity.
