Otto Rowold is VFW’s latest Hometown Hero

HOMETOWN HERO–A banner honoring local veteran Otto Rowold is currently on display outside of the Red Bud VFW Post. Pictured with the banner are his children: Jeff Rowold, Barry Rowold and Joann Wegener.

The latest Hometown Hero featured in front of the Red Bud VFW Post 6632 is Otto W. Rowold.

Rowold was a World War II Navy veteran serving from Oct. 20, 1943 to Jan. 17, 1946. Vessels and stations he served at included: Farragut Naval Training Station, Idaho; Amphibious Training Base Camp Bradford, Norfolk, Virginia; and the USS LST 674.

Ranks Rowold held include: AS, F2C, F3C, F1C, WT3C and WT2C. He received medals for serving in the American Theater, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign 1 Star, the European–African–Middle Eastern Campaign, Philippine Liberation Campaign, and also received the Victory Medal.
