Musketeers win thriller

by Brian Magee

The Red Bud varsity football team opened conference play this week at home against the Carlyle Indians. The game began with the Musketeers kicking off to the visitors and Carlyle marching down the length of the field for a touchdown on a 15 yard shuffle-pass to take a 7-0 lead. After both teams exchanged punts, the first quarter ended at 7-0, Indians.

The second quarter began with a third and long for Carlyle at the Red Bud 42. The Indians picked up four yards on a run and chose to go for it on fourth and 3. The Red Bud defense was able to pressure the Carlyle quarterback forcing an incomplete, causing the Indians to turn the ball over on downs. The teams again exchanged punts when with just under three minutes to play in the half, Red Bud quarterback Landon Ruebusch connected with wide receiver Carson Moll for a 40 yard touchdown pass. Brayden Koester split the uprights for the PAT making the score tied at seven at the half.
