The 2023 Red Bud Musketeers boys basketball season got underway this past week with their first game coming on the road in Valmeyer against the Pirates. Red Bud has an ultra talented team with great players at a bevy of positions and they’ve put on quite a show thus far. Tuesday’s game in Valmeyer was a rather back and forth affair throughout with those pesky Pirates refusing to fully disappear.
In the first quarter, senior guard/forward/phenom Owen Liefer got the scoring going with a three pointer, followed swiftly by junior guard Trent Sternberg knocking down a triple of his own, only to be followed again by fellow junior guard Isaac Moll for 3. Sternberg nailed another, then Moll hit two more threes to make it 18-8. Valmeyer kept at it though, knocking down a three in the process of being fouled and completing the rare four point play to narrow the gap 18-14. Red Bud scored a couple of baskets inside to make it 23-17 after one.
