Musketeers are 21-8 heading into final week of regular season action

by Alex Easter

The basketball season is winding down and we have just a couple of games left before playoffs start. This past week the Red Bud Musketeers boys team had two road games, one in Marissa and one in Carlyle. Tuesday’s game against the Marissa Meteors was an exciting, physical matchup of two hard-nosed teams.

The first quarter started with Marissa scoring a bucket, followed promptly by Junior guard Owen Liefer getting to the basket and scoring on a layup. Marissa hit a couple of threes to get a 10-2 lead to start off the game, but the Musketeers quickly came fighting back after Senior Forward Devin Hall scored in the paint and then drew a couple of fouls. Hall grabbed an offensive rebound and was fouled in the act of shooting. He hit one, then missed the second, but Senior Drew Grohmann was there to snag the board and score to tie the game at 10 a piece. Marissa scored a couple more times, and Sophomore Trent Sternberg scored on a putback to end the quarter at 12-14 with Marissa in the lead.
