Long time local auctioneer passed away last Saturday

Over the weekend, a longtime local business owner and former county official passed away.

Wayne A. Voss, 71, of Red Bud, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 23 at Mercy Hospital South in St. Louis, Missouri.

He had been an auctioneer for 54 years, running Voss Auctions, LLC (also known as Voss Brothers Action Auction Associates) with his brothers. He was a member of the Illinois Auctioneer Association, and was inducted into the Illinois Auctioneer Hall of Fame in February 2013.

In addition to the auction business, Voss had served as the Randolph County supervisor of assessments for 28 years, from 1990 until he retired in 2018.

A memorial service for Voss was held on Nov. 27 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Red Bud with Rev. Brian Nowak officiating.
