Holy Cross Lutheran Church of Wartburg will observe the 180th Anniversary of its founding with a 9 a.m. worship service on July 11 led by Rev. Dan Ostlund, 24th pastor of the church. Worship will be inside the sanctuary.
The anniversary theme is “Welcome Home.” The guest preacher will be Rev. Dennis W. Schmidt, son of the late Wilmer and Florence (Thorburg) Schmidt of Wartburg.
The Wartburg church was founded on July 11, 1841 by Rev. Georg Albert Schieferdecker and nine known members, who met in the home of member Johann Christian Just.
Other events for the 180th year of Holy Cross are being planned.
