FIRST PLACE FLOAT–For the fifth year in a row, Roeslein won the title of having the first place float in the Red Bud Firemen’s Picnic Parade. This year, they had to spread their entry out onto two trailers. The first, complete with a system of pipes and flames, highlighted their micro biogas system, which turns farm waste to fuel. The second trailer featured a giant can pouring water, can cooler launchers, a bubble/foam blower and their Tin Man and Cowardly Lions statues. And of course, employees were walking along with both trailers passing out cold cans of water. For more pictures from the parade, please see this week’s print edition..
The weather may have dampened some of the festivities over the weekend, but overall the 96th annual Red Bud Firemen’s Picnic was another success.
Fire Chief Sean Landgraf noted, “We were hampered by the rain a bit on Friday night, but the crowd was still great. Saturday and Sunday made up for it though. Overall it was a great weekend. Parade was also a success. We are already discussing improvements for next year.”
He added, “I also need to say thank you to the police department, utility department, city hall, and all of the volunteers. We would not be able to continue this tradition without them.”
