UNVEILED HISTORICAL MARKER–On March 15, a historical marker commemorating the march of General George Rogers Clark through the local area was dedicated at the Coulterville History Museum. Pictured at the dedication are students from Coulterville High School and members of the Sons of the American Revolution.
A wave of community pride swept through Coulterville Saturday, March 15, as students, residents and members of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) gathered for the dedication of a historical plaque commemorating General George Rogers Clark’s pivotal campaign to capture Fort Sackville. The plaque, a testament to the town’s significant, yet often overlooked, role in American history, was the culmination of a dedicated effort by the students of Coulterville.
The event saw a large turnout, with attendees eager to learn more about the historical significance of their town. Clark, a key figure in the American Revolutionary War, led his intrepid band of frontiersmen through the area that is now Coulterville during his arduous winter march to capture Fort Sackville (present-day Vincennes, Indiana) from the British in 1779.
