A familiar face returned to the March 28 Randolph County Board of Commissioners meeting to share a report that has been two years in the making.
In 2023, Dr. Marc Kiehna, who at that time was serving as a county commissioner, was one of 20 individuals selected across 13 states by the National Association of Counties to serve on their Building Resilient Economies in Coal Communities (BRECC) initiative, the Commitment Coalition.
So at the meeting, Kiehna had an update about the coalition and what they have done.
First he gave a brief explanation of what the group is, noting that they are driven by coal communities wanting to revitalize and diversify their communities. The coalition members participated in group visits and Zoom calls. “We learned a lot about what’s going on in coal communities,” Kiehna noted.
