How the recent election went was a topic of discussion at the Nov. 8 Randolph County Board of Commissioners meeting.
County Clerk Melanie Johnson happily reported that there was good voter turnout this year, with 72 percent, or 14,505 out of 20,235 registered voters, casting a ballot. She added that this was around the same percentage that voted in 2020, within around 500 votes.
Of the ballots cast, 2,073 were early voters that came to the courthouse, and 1,692 were mail in ballots.
Johnson pointed out that her office is still receiving mail in ballots, as they can accept them for 14 days after the election as long as they are postmarked by Nov. 5. This means the results will remain unofficial until that time.
