One of Prairie du Rocher’s centuries old traditions will be continued on Saturday, Jan. 10. Following the traditions brought to the area by the towns earliest settlers, a cake with four beans baked inside will be served to all the gentleman. The first person to find the bean is crowned king of the ball. He then chooses his queen. The remaining three beans designate his court who likewise, choose their partners.
Music is provided by an old–time string band offering waltzes, schottisches, polkas, reels and square dances. The caller gives brief instructions before the dances. The guests, dressed in their 18th century finest, the candlelight, the draped decorations and the beautiful hardwood dance floor, combined with amazing music is truly a step back in time. Costumes are not required.
