Canoeist portaged through area
PASSING THROUGH–Pictured is canoeist Peter Frank as he passed through Red Bud on Thanksgiving morning. He was portaging his canoe through the area as part of his effort to complete the Great Loop.
Last week, many in the local area may have noticed an interesting sight – a young man pulling (or sometimes pushing) a canoe along the highway.
That man was Peter Frank, and he is on a quest to finish a journey he started back in June of 2024 – the Great Loop.
The Great Loop, as described by the America’s Great Loop Cruisers Association, “is a circumnavigation of the eastern U.S., and part of Canada. The route includes the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway, the New York State Canals, the Canadian Canals, the Great Lakes, the inland rivers, and the Gulf of Mexico.”
