Randolph County passed kratom ban

Joining several local municipalities, on Feb. 27, the Randolph County Board of Commissioners approved of an ordinance banning the sale of kratom.

Within the past few months, the sale of kratom, and kratom products, has been banned in the Cities of Red Bud, Chester and Sparta.

“This is a big thing I’ve seen and done research on,” said Commissioner Andy Gerlach. “It’s addictive and can be as bad as heroin. We don’t want it in our county. I’m glad we put an ordinance together and that many other communities are also banning it.”

The ordinance specifically states that it will now “be unlawful for any person, firm, business or other entity to sell, offer to sell, give, deliver or distribute kratom or any derivative thereof within the corporate limits of the County of Randolph.”
