Woman fatally injured in accident in Columbia

A serious accident in Columbia on Feb. 26 claimed the life of a local woman and seriously injured two of her children.

According to reports, Emily M. Webb, 41, of Columbia, was driving a Suburban through the intersection of State Route 3 and Veterans Parkway, near Columbia High School around 12:30 p.m. that day. All six of her children were in the vehicle with her.

As they passed west through the intersection, Webb’s vehicle was struck by a northbound dump truck hauling grain driven by Donald L. Eccher, 86, of Millstadt.

Webb was declared deceased at the scene. All of her children were taken to area hospitals for treatment of injuries ranging from minor to critical. As of Tuesday this week, two of her children are still in critical condition, while the other four have been able to go home.

Eccher received minor injuries in the accident.

Webb’s funeral is planned for March 9 at 11 a.m. at Hope Christian Church in Columbia.
