Congratulations to the winners of the 2017 VFW and Auxiliary Patriot’s Pen competition. This year’s essay theme was “America’s Gift to My Generation.”

The first place winner was Ashley Ottoson, second place was Molly Ellner and third place was Caleb Guebert. All three attend St. John’s Lutheran School.

There were 18 entries in total this year—two from Red Bud Elementary and the remainder from St. John’s Lutheran.

Ottoson’s entry has been submitted for judging at the VFW District 14 level for possible advancement to the state level. The winner from each state then competes for national prizes totaling $54,500.

The VFW and Auxiliary truly appreciate the time, effort and support expended by the students and teachers to enter the contests.
