Waterloo man charged for fatal stabbing in Red Bud on Saturday

A Red Bud man was fatally injured following an incident that took place in rural Red Bud on the night of Saturday, Jan. 6.

According to press releases from Randolph County State’s Attorney Jeremy Walker, at approximately 10:59 p.m. on Jan. 6, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office received a call of a white male at the Red Bud Regional Hospital suffering from an apparent stab wound. The victim received medical treatment, but succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased before midnight.

The victim was identified by the Randolph County Coroner’s Office as Adam J. Sesto, 36.

The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from the Red Bud Police Department, Randolph County Coroner’s Office, Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, Waterloo Police Department and the Illinois State Police, handled the investigation into Sesto’s death.

Reports note that his death is the result of an incident that occurred near the intersection of Huntfield Road and Blackjack Road, where he received the fatal injury. Sesto was then transported from the scene by a witness to the hospital, where he passed away.

In a conversation with the North County News, Walker added that the incident took place in the roadway and that Sesto had received a single stab wound to the front of his body.

Taken into custody around 2 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 7 by the Waterloo Police Department was Kodi A. Lafore, 22, of Waterloo. Lafore was reported to have been arrested outside of a friend’s residence in Waterloo.

Lafore was initially transported to the Randolph County Jail and put under a 48 hour investigatory hold. On Jan. 8 he was formally charged with involuntary manslaughter. His bond was set at $50,000.
