Last Sunday and going into early this week, many Red Bud residents may have noticed their water was off colored.
On Tuesday morning, Jan. 21, the City of Red Bud’s water department posted on the city’s Facebook page and through the Nixle email notification system that “we encountered an issue with the treatment process late Sunday, but the problem was quickly resolved. Due to this situation, residents may notice a discoloration of the water caused by elevated manganese levels. Please note that there are no adverse health effects and that the water is safe to use. Please avoid washing white clothing in hot water until the discolored water has had a chance to get flushed out of the system which may take approximately two to three days.”
The post also advised that if anyone had any questions to contact the utility department at 618-282-3339.
City Superintendent Josh Eckart briefed the council on the situation during their committee meetings on Monday night.
He reported that this issue was caught as it happened and corrective action was quickly taken to put it under control.
