The Illinois Trekkers branch of the national walking organization American Volkssport Association (AVA), will be hosting a “Historic Red Bud Walk” volksmarch this August.
A volksmarch is a “folks walk” or a walk for the people. Participants set their own pace for the walk. The goal is to encourage physical fitness, promote fellowship and to enjoy the outdoors.
The Red Bud walk will be held on Saturday, Aug. 18. All participants are to check in and register at the Randolph County YMCA between 8:30 and 11 a.m. No pre-registration is necessary, just show up the day of. Participants will walk at their own pace, but must be finished by 3 p.m. (when the YMCA closes).
All are welcome to come participate, but an adult must accompany any children age 12 or under. Pets are also welcome, but must be kept on a leash and the owners must pick up after them.
