Several local teams compete at state

FIFTH AT STATE–The Red Bud High School Math Team competed at the Illinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics (ICTM) State Math Contest on Saturday, May 6 at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Members of the team placed in several categories, earning the team fifth place overall in the state. Those competing this year were (not pictured in order): Josh Birke, Lauren Crowe, Cameron Dobbs, Katie Harms, Alyssa Heller, Brenden Heller, Caitlyn McBride, Maria Mueller, Emma Neumeyer, Brittney Pensoneau, Jared Pfannebecker, Jason Pfannebecker, Emma Siegfried, Alex Sievers, Zach Sutton and Adam Wild.

COMPETE AT STATE–Six Red Bud Elementary students placed at the SIJHSAA Class L regionals on May 8 in DuQuoin and qualified for the state track meet held in Carterville on Saturday, May 13. Competing at state were: in front: Gabbi Nuspl in the 4×100 relay, Abbi Carroll in the 4×100 relay, and Hannah Sievers in shot put; in back: Frank Ford in shot put and discus, Aleaha Anderson in 100 meter hurdles and 4×100 relay, and Chloe Wild in high jump and 4×100 relay. Anderson placed sixth in hurdles, Wild placed sixth in high jump, and Ford placed second in discus and third in shot put. The team is coached by Tammy Kueker and Joe Mellenthin.

SET NEW SCHOOL RECORD–Prairie du Rocher students Meg Carle, Alexis Mudd, Danielle Mudd, Sierra Steibel and Madison Pensoneau ran at the SIJHSAA Class S State Track Meet in Herrin on May 13 in the 4×200 relay. Their time was 2:06:06, which broke the school record. Meg Carle was also at the state meet as an alternate for the team. The Prairie du Rocher girls track coach is Abby Fortner.
