Serious accident reported on July 4 near Red Bud

Several people were seriously injured in a multi-vehicle crash that took place on July 4, just a few miles north-west of Red Bud.

According to the Illinois State Police, around 10:40 p.m. that night, Matthew Notter, 22, of Red Bud, was driving a 2010 Chevrolet Silverado northbound on State Route 3. Near the intersection with J Road, Notter’s truck crossed the center line and clipped the southbound 2008 Honda Accord driven by Amy McGuire, 39, of Columbia. Notter’s truck then hit head on a southbound 2012 GMC Sierra driven by Elizabeth Rollins, 39, of Red Bud.

Notter was airlifted to Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis with critical injuries. Reports are that he was still hospitalized as of early this week.

Rollins was transported to Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis by ambulance for treatment of serious injuries. A 13 year old passenger in her vehicle was transported to St. Louis Children’s Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

McGuire was reported as uninjured.

The road was closed until shortly after 4 a.m. on July 5 as the Illinois State Police performed accident reconstruction.
