The Red Bud football team fell to the Eagles in the first round of the IHSA State playoffs Saturday in Eldorado. The Musketeers, who relied heavily on their high powered passing offense were, corralled by the Eldorado defense that did their homework. The Eagles were able to keep receiver Alex Birchler in check via the double team and pressure quarterback Griffin Ziebold all game to slow down the Red Bud scoring machine.
Red Bud’s defense covered the pass very well, but the Eldorado rushing game proved too much for the Musketeer run defense making for a long day for the Musketeers. The Musketeers did adjust offensively early in the game to score 13 points on two touchdown passes by Ziebold both to Robby Oliver in the first half to keep the score close, but in the end, the Eagles triumphed. Final score 38-13.
All in all, it was a thrilling season with the team finishing 6-4 overall, 4-2 in conference with wins over Freeburg, Central and Columbia. The Boys will now pack away the football pads and many will move right into basketball season so we will see you on the court. Good luck!
