School board recognizes many students and staff at meeting

RECOGNIZED BY THE BOARD–Recognized at the Red Bud Board of Education meeting on Jan. 16 were a large group of eighth grade students that had poems published, members of the high school’s FBLA, and teacher Pam Seals, Kim Straub, Anne Sievers and Tracey Simpson.

Last Thursday’s Red Bud Board of Education meeting was highly attended; mostly attending though were students there to be recognized.

Most of the students were eighth graders that eighth grade language arts teacher Kim Straub wanted to recognize. She noted that these students all had poems published recently.

She added that she had taught a poetry unit and the students themselves worked on writing, editing and submitting their work. Of those that submitted, 20 were selected for publication in the Creative Communications’ fall 2019 anthology “A Celebration of Poets.”

Straub was happy to also point out that Red Bud Elementary School was recognized in the anthology as receiving the Writing Achievement Award. This award recognized the school for being in the top percentage in the Midwest region due to the number and quality of poems submitted.

Students that were recognized were (not all were present at the meeting): Tryton Barnett, Jayna Bast, Mia Beshoar, Lane Brockmeyer, Lydia Chambers, Kylie Deterding, Sam Easter, Abbigale Esker, Jesalyn Hallman, Emma Heinemann, Havyn Inyart, Alexis Koester, Owen Liefer, Paige Otey, Machenzie Quigley, Zoe Sanders, Hannah Schoenbeck, Kylie Tobin, Sara Weiser and Alex Wittenbrink.

Elementary Principal Ryan McClellan also recognized two faculty members at the meeting: Pam Seals and Kim Straub.
