Rough week for Lady Musketeers

The Lady Musketeers completed their final week of regular season play. On Monday, January 30, Red Bud hosted New Athens for Senior Night. The Musketeers were hoping for a big win to add to their record.
In the first quarter, the Musketeers came out strong and put some points on the board. Mackenzie Schweizer sank a three-pointer and put in two, two-point shots as well. Sophie Richards and Morgan Cowell both knocked in a two-pointer from the post. Cowell also went one for three from the free throw line. Sydney Schweizer was fouled on a shot and went one for two from the free throw line. Red Bud was leading 13-8 at the end of the quarter.
The Lady Musketeers were outscored in the second quarter. Kaylee Stengel made a two-point shot from the high post. Cowell and Richards were also each fouled on a shot and went one for two from the free throw line. At halftime, the score was 17-14 with Red Bud still holding the lead.
Red Bud came out much slower in the third quarter and only managed to put three points on the board. Richards made a two-pointer from the post. Sophia Koesterer was fouled and made one of two free throws. New Athens took the lead with a score of 26-20.
In the fourth quarter, the Musketeers came out ready to score and added 16 points to their score. Koesterer sank a three-pointer. S. Schweizer drove to the basket and made a layup. Richards made a two-point shot. M. Schweizer put in two, two-pointers and was fouled multiple times, going four for six from the free throw line. Cowell also went one for two from the free throw line. Red Bud fell to New Athens in a close game with a final score of 36-37.
