Rotary Club honors exchange student with Peruvian dinner

HELD DINNER–The Red Bud Rotary Club recently held a Peruvian dinner in honor of Peruvian exchange student Nicolle Ramirez. Pictured at the dinner are: Rotarians Robin Hentis and Jonathan Tallman, Ramirez, Exchange Coordinator Dian Keil and Rotary President Barb Wagner.

Rotary Club of Red Bud hosted a Peruvian inspired dinner on Nov. 9 in honor of Nicolle Ramirez, Red Bud Rotary’s foreign exchange student.

The event was held at Red Bud Winery where a four course Peruvian meal was paired with region-inspired wines. Ramirez spoke to the Rotary Club about her home, family and customs in Lima, Peru.

In the picture, Ramirez is shown wearing a jacket that is a tradition for the Rotary Club Youth Exchange Program. As students meet other students within the program, they exchange a pin or token that represents them and their country. Ramirez is among 8,000 other youth exchange students who travel abroad each year to live and study in 80 countries.

During her year in Red Bud, Ramirez will live with three different host families and attend Red Bud High School. These families play an instrumental role in introducing her to customs and history that are distinctive to our area. This has proven to be a rewarding program to the exchange students, the host families and the Rotary Club of Red Bud.

If anyone is interested in being a host family for the 2018-2019 school year, please contact Dian Keil, exchange coordinator, at (618) 604-2284.
