Roads closed as water levels rise

SHUTTING THE GATES–With flood waters rising, on Sunday, volunteers closed the flood gates on State Route 155 at Prairie du Rocher. Phegley Photo.

With so much rain this spring and snow melting up north, area rivers are currently in flood stage.

With the river levels rising, the Fort Chartres and Prairie du Rocher Levee Districts held a sandbagging day last Saturday, to prepare sandbags. Many of those were used the next day as the flood gates on State Route 155 in Prairie du Rocher were closed.

Other closed roads in Randolph County include: State Route 3 south of Chester from Mary’s River Bridge to the Cora Levee; Water Street in Evansville; Water Street in Chester; Mill Creek Road in Rockwood, Fawn View Road near Rockwood; and the Old Channel Road at the bridge leading to Kaskaskia Island.
