Red Bud’s big 150th birthday bash started Thursday

HAPPY BIRTHDAY RED BUD–Pictured is the Red Bud 150 cake at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. It is just one of more than 40 cakes made by area businesses and organizations to celebrate Red Bud’s 150th. Be sure to watch for the cakes, which should be on display through Oct. 14. People are encouraged to take pictures of the various cakes and share them on social media with the tag #RB150cakes for a chance to win prizes from the Red Bud Chamber of Commerce.

One of the biggest events celebrating Red Bud’s 150th birthday, Heritage Hoopla Days, is this weekend and it is an entire weekend packed with fun events for all ages.

On Thursday, Oct. 5, the Sept. 11 Never Forget Exhibit will be arriving in Red Bud via Route 3 from St. Louis. The exhibit will be escorted by the Red Bud Fire and Police Departments into town with a small parade. This exhibit is a very touching tribute to Sept. 11 and our first responders. It is a tribute that will be something to remember for a lifetime.

All are invited to come down to Market Street between 12:30 and 1 p.m. to welcome the exhibit to Red Bud. The parade will go from Ratz Memorial Park to Red Bud City Hall. Showing support with American Flags is also encouraged.

The exhibit trailer will end at Red Bud City Hall where it will be set up and open for viewing over the weekend.

Friday, Oct. 6 kicks off a weekend of family friendly events. With school out of session for teacher institutes that day, it is a perfect time for the whole family to come down to the city hall park for rides, games, cake decorating, food, wine garden, kids canvas painting and enjoying the bands on stage. The night will end with Whiskey Dixon on stage.

Saturday, Oct. 7 will feature the barbecue competition, dessert baking competition, official cake cutting and toast, music all day and night, the craft beer garden, rides, games, rock painting, food vendors, Little Miss and Mr. Red Bud contest and more. The night will end with Uber Cool performing.
