CHRISTMAS TIME IN RED BUD–During a small scale event last Friday night, the Red Bud Community Christmas Tree was lit. Pictured is an aerial view of the tree in Santa’s Village with some of the Santa’s Village volunteers. For more pictures from the lighting event, please see this week’s print edition.
While there wasn’t a grand public ceremony as in the past, a small group gathered last Friday evening to officially light the Red Bud Community Christmas Tree.
This year’s tree was donated by Perri and Sue Mehring. The tree measures 27 feet tall and 20 feet wide. It was set up at Santa’s Village (the Red Bud City Hall park) on Nov. 7 and was decorated the following weekend.
Those in attendance for the tree lighting included members of the Mehring family and the Santa’s Village volunteers.
Helping Santa to light the tree that evening were: Harper and Hudson Mehring, the children of Christopher and Erica Mehring; and Mason, Maddex and Marshall Mehring, sons of Mathew and Michelle Mehring.
Mehring grandchildren that were not able to attend the lighting ceremony, but were still there in spirit were: Abby and Sophia Mehring, daughters of Scott and Kelly Mehring of Rochester; and Josie, Charlotte and Penelope McCann, daughters of Amanda and Patrick McCann of Elgin, South Carolina.
Video of the tree lighting can be viewed on the Santa’s Village Facebook page, www.facebook.com/rbsantasvillage.
Following the tree lighting, Santa’s Village opened up for the holiday season. It will be open each Friday evening through Dec. 18 from 5:30 to 8 p.m.
