Red Bud has sweet beginning at Candy Cane tourney

The Red Bud Lady Musketeers played in the Gibault Candy Cane Tournament Dec. 16-21. In the first game, on Dec. 18, Red Bud faced off against Madison. During the first quarter, the ladies scored 13 points. Amber Stengel and Hannah Sievers each made a two-point shot. Sami Lucht scored four points of her own with a couple of two-pointers. Jessica Bievenue and Chloe Wild had one point a piece from free throws and Reese Foster made a three-pointer. Madison put ten points on the scoreboard to give Red Bud a three point lead.

Red Bud had an even better second quarter. Of the team’s 19 points, Sami Lucht had eight, consisting of a few two-pointers and two made free throws. Claire Grohmann, Sievers, Bievenue, and Madison Pensoneau each had two points from free throws or two-point shots. Wild then added three points to the score with a free throw and a two-pointer. Madison was only able to add seven points to their score, which gave the Red Bud team a 31-17 advantage at halftime.
