Monroe-Randolph Regional Office of Education’s Safe School, Red Brick School, anticipates an exceptional year at its new location at the Career Center of Southern Illinois outside of Hecker.
Red Brick opened in 1997 when Faye Hughes was regional superintendent with Wayne Reinking, who coordinated the grant program, Jeff Rockford and Mike Spradling, instructors, and Donna Reinhardt, secretary. The program continued to flourish under the leadership of Regional Superintendent Marc Kiehna from 2003–2012.
Spradling continued as an instructor at Red Brick for the past 20 years until his retirement earlier this summer. He identified with Red Brick’s comprehensive approach to students and felt he was helping “one kid at a time.” Spradling said, “The needs of our students have grown over the years, and I am proud of the work we have done to focus on each and every one.”
