A local student was one of 21 high school students from across Illinois named as a member of the Illinois State Board of Education’s 2019-20 Student Advisory Council.
The council includes 11 new and 10 returning members from across the state. The new council met for the first time on Sept. 17. The council will provide the state board with diverse student perspectives on education issues in Illinois as the board formulates policy throughout the year.
“Students’ voices have an important role in ensuring our education system is rooted in equity, quality, community, and collaboration,” said State Superintendent of Education Dr. Carmen I. Ayala. “I applaud the outstanding young people on this council for committing to give their time and efforts to improve Illinois’ education system for themselves and their peers. I cannot wait to get to know the members of this year’s council and hear what they have to say.”
