A lot of things have changed in less than two years’ time at the pharmacy located at 1506 South Main Street in Red Bud.
In October 2016, the pharmacy, then known as Deterding Drugs, officially changed ownership when it was sold to Steven and Rachel Gibson. They renamed it Gibson’s Discount Drugs.
In February of this year, a federal investigation took place at the pharmacy; and on Aug. 14, Steven pled guilty to federal charges of defrauding health care benefit programs. He is scheduled to be sentenced on Nov. 27 of this year.
When news broke last month about the charges, many wondered what would happen to the pharmacy. Rachel Gibson recently sat down with the North County News to discuss changes and her plans for the future.
When her husband originally bought the pharmacy, Rachel noted that she was just in charge of the gift shop. As of Aug. 31, she is now the sole owner of the store and pharmacy.
“I have been learning the ropes, as I hadn’t been as involved in the business. It’s been a lot to learn in the last month,” she commented.
“It has been hard,” she commented. “Business is still good, it hasn’t slowed down and I’m thankful for that. We’ve had lots of encouragement from customers and the community. I wasn’t expecting all the encouragement. I’m so thankful for our customers.”
