A police chase that started with an accident in Missouri and ended in Maeystown over the weekend, also dipped into part of Red Bud.
According to police reports, just after 9 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 1, a green 2004 Pontiac Sunfire with Missouri plates was involved in an accident in Missouri. The vehicle then continued traveling at a high rate of speed across the river into Illinois.
The Republic-Times reported that at 9:20 a.m., a Columbia police officer observed the vehicle traveling at a high speed and swerving on Admiral Parkway south through town. The officer attempted to pull the car over, but it did not stop, thus instigating a police pursuit as it continued to travel south on State Route 3.
As the vehicle traveled through Waterloo, the Waterloo Police Department and Monroe County Sheriff’s Department joined in on the pursuit.
The vehicle then continued south towards Red Bud.
