Musketeers win on the road

by Brian Magee

Red Bud got back on track last week with a convincing win against the Eagles of Brentwood, Missouri.

The Eagles got on the board first with a 7 yard touchdown run early in the first frame, but failed to notch the extra point to take a 6-0 lead. The Musketeers went to work after a good kick return put them near midfield. Red Bud put together a drive that culminated in an 8 yard touchdown run by senior stand-out Seth Bass. Sam Carroll’s PAT kick was good giving the Musketeers a 7-6 lead.

The lead was short lived as the Eagles connected on a 56 yard pass play for six points to regain the lead 12-7. The two defenses took control during the second quarter until Red Bud scored on another TD run by Bass, this time for 9 yards; Carroll was perfect and the Boys took over the lead 14-12.

Just when it looked as if the game was settling down, the Eagles took the ensuing kick-off and returned it for a TD to regain the lead. The Musketeers had another chance to take the lead and make a statement about their intensions not to give up, and they followed through with the message. Red Bud took the kickoff and put together a drive that lasted just over a minute and a half and scored six on a 36 yard TD pass from Quarterback Jayden Birkner to Andrew Luthy to make the score 20-18 at the half.
