The Musketeers wrapped up conference play with matchups against the New Athens Yellow Jackets and the Dupo Tigers. They were both very winnable games and the team wanted to end the disappointing year on a positive note.
The first game against New Athens started out very slow offensively for both teams. The Musketeers got off to a quick 4-0 lead in the first minute of the game, after a steal and fastbreak layup for Jayden Birkner. The offense went cold for the rest of the quarter, only scoring three more points. Luckily, the defense held strong and controlled the glass to give up only five points in the quarter.
Both offensives remained fairly slow during the second quarter. Carter Wiegard added five points in the quarter, but not much else would happen. The defense remained strong and only gave up eight points. The score at half was 16-13.
The Musketeer’s offense took off in the third quarter, largely in part to Wiegard. He put in 14 of his team high 21 points in this quarter. He made three momentum swinging 3-pointers within three possessions. This offensive surge brought a lot of momentum to the Musketeer defense, which played another solid quarter. The score heading into the fourth was 34-26.
